Alice Cooper July 11 2019

This was a show I never really expected to see. And I never expected to see it with my wife. We were driving home from a road trip to a record store where I had bought an Alice Cooper CD (Hey Stoopid). So as we were listening to it, my country music lovin wife remarked how she had used to listen to Alice Cooper before we had met. And I kind of remember that she had the "Trash" cassette tape when we started dating. So I mentioned that he would be playing nearby and I could get tickets if she would go. And she's always willing to follow me on any little adventure so I bought tickets. Alice Cooper also has a special place in our relationship. He was in the movie "Wayne's World" which happens to be the movie we saw on our first date! I know, how romantic! Give me a break, I was 16!
So on the day of the show, we decided to make an entire day of it. We visited a nearby historic park and museum. Now the show was in the rather small city of Wabash Indiana at the Honeywell Center. We went to dinner at a restaurant near the venue. The waitress told us that Alice and his wife had been there for lunch earlier. We got to the venue, picked up a t-shirt for Maria and an autographed "Paranormal" album for myself. Now I had heard from many people that there is not a bad seat in the house at the Honeywell Center. And I am compelled to agree! It is a beautiful theater style venue holding 1500 people. The show was sold out.
Now I've heard for years about the "Legendary Alice Cooper Stage Show" with all the theatrics and costumes. So I was stoked to finally see it for myself. And They did not disappoint. There was one snafu though. The guillotine malfunctioned. The blade did not drop all the way down. Oh well, they can't all be perfect. The other part of this show I was excited to see was guitar player Nita Strauss. She is a phenomenal guitar player. I had bought her solo album "Controlled Chaos" earlier this year. If you love virtuoso guitar playing instrumental albums I highly suggest this one. Not only that, but her onstage energy is very high! She was running circles around the rest of the band. The rest of the band sounded excellent and It was a hell of a show. We both had a great time. Here's the set list and some (crappy) pics.

Feed My Frankenstein
No More Mr. Nice Guy
Bed Of Nails
Raped And Freezin'
Fallen In Love
Muscle Of Love
I'm Eighteen
Billion Dollar Babies
Poison
Nita Strauss Guitar Solo
Roses On White Lace
My Stars
Devil's Food
Black Widow Jam
Steven
Dead Babies
I Love The Dead
Escape
Teenage Frankenstein
Under My Wheels
School's Out

Now I have a really good camera, but most venues won't let you bring those in. So I have to resort to my little camera that is not the best from a distance. So this is what I get.

Quiet Riot July 4 2019

It was a HOT Independance Day in 2019. And Quiet Riot was playing my home town Fourth of July Festival. The Haynes Apperson Festival. It's a small fair that I've gone to all my life. In recent years, the promoters have been doing their best to bring in more well known music acts. And I am thankful for that. But, I really haven't been able to really enjoy them the past couple of years. I don't do well in the heat. And a few other things came up this year that were telling me to skip this show. But I just had to go. Even if we had to leave early. I only got to hear a handful  of songs before we left, but they sounded great! Here's the songs I heard.

Run For Cover
Slick Black Cadillac
Mama Weer All Crazee Now
Love's A Bitch
Condition Critical

We could still hear them as we walked to the car. I'm not sure what the next song was, but the one after that was Thunderbird. I could tell that from about 5 blocks away. I know I missed the two most popular songs, and would have loved to stay longer. It just wasn't in the cards. So I took about 100 pics in the short time I was there so here's a few.

Quiet Riot August 27 2011

This was a free show at a Harley Davidson dealership. My friend Vince had said he was going so I decided to join him. As we drove up the highway leading to the dealership, there were bikes parked along the highway starting a couple of miles back! They were everywhere! I think every Harley in the state of Indiana was at this show! I felt a little awkward riding up in a car. It wasn't very hard to get close to the stage because most of the people there were to busy drooling over each others bikes.
This was early on in the reformation of the band after the death of Kevin Dubrow. We were a little skeptical of how the band would sound. The new singer had had some growing pains. He did screw up a couple of times during this set as well  and this would end up being his final show with the band.  His voice was good, but he just didn't have the stage presence. This show and his departure was detailed in the 2015 documentary "Well now you're here, There's no way back".
Aside from the vocal mishaps, the band sounded great! One of the thing's that stood out was the heartfelt introduction to the song "Thunderbird" by Frankie Banali. He came out from behind the drum kit front and center to dedicate the song to Kevin Dubrow and to Randy Rhoads (whom the song was originally a tribute to from Kevin on the Metal Health album.) Other than that, It was just a great Rock and Roll show. I don't have the set list from this show, but I found one online from a show not to far from this one and I'm guessing they are about the same.

Run for Cover
Slick Black Cadillac
Mama Weer All Crazee Now
Sign of the Times
Love's a Bitch
Condition Critical
Party All Night
Put Up or Shut Up
Thunderbird
Breathless
Bass Case
The Wild and the Young
Let's Get Crazy
Cum On Feel the Noize
Metal Health (Bang Your Head)

Most people had said they should give up after Kevin Dubrow died, but I'm glad these songs are still being played. I go way back with Quiet Riot. "Metal Health " was the second tape I ever bought on my own way back in around 1984. I can't say that I have followed every aspect of the band, but they have always be in my music rotation and always will be. Here's some pics.

Mayhem Music Festival August 7 2011

OH BOY! This was not going to be a normal festival experience for me! I happened to have joined the Megadeth Cyber Army Fan Club this year. I won a meet and great through the fan club. I was going to meet Megadeth! A band that I had been listening to pretty religiously for 20 plus years! With me on this adventure was Tim. He unfortunately did not have a meet and greet. Also, my daughter was there. just not with me. She was with her then boyfriend.
Here is the lineup of bands.

  Main Stage
Disturbed
Godsmack
Megadeth
Machine Head
Trivium
  Revolver Stage
Suicide Silence
All Shall Perish
Straight Line Stitch
  Jägermeister Mobile Stage
The Athiarchists
Unearth
Kingdom of Sorrow
Red Fang
The Metal Mulisha Motorcycle Stunt Show was also going on, but we missed it again! I was also  excited to see Red Fang. There new single "Prehistoric Dog" was really good. We strolled up to their stage just in time to see them play that song. And that was it. We walked around alot for the first part of the day. None of the other bands playing were really on my radar. Plus I had to be at a certain gate at a specific time to get back stage. At some time during this, it rained. It rained hard! but then it was over. Indiana weather. As I sat there waiting to meet Megadeth. Tim wandered around and ended up at a merchandise booth with a sign saying "Free Meet and Greet with Sully Erna with purchase." So Tim bought a T Shirt that said "I Love Vagina" so he could meet Sully. I wasn't there for it but, Tim said Sully came in complaining that there was no vagina's at the I Love Vagina booth! He did sign Tims shirt though. I in the meantime am getting taken backstage. The guy in charge went over the rules with us. "No autographs. No individual photos. A group photo will be taken. And stay cool. Don't spaz out!" I really wanted to do all three, but I followed the rules. They lined us up. And out came Megadeth! Shawn Drover and Chris Broderick kind of stayed together like a team. They talked to people together. I wish I had more to say to them, but they were still kind of the "new guys". I'm not quite sure what David Ellefson was doing, I couldn't see him. Dave Mustaine started at the other end and slowly made his way down to me. As he got closer, I heard what he was asking to the other people and I tried to formulate a good answer. And then he got to me. "So what's your favorite song?" I forgot my name at that point. I was starstruck! Dammit! I felt like little Ralphie climbing up on Santa's lap to tell him I wanted a Red Ryder! But my brain had shut off! I casually told him "Not even you can make me decide that. There's just to many!" He was kind of taken back by that but then told me "That's the right answer" I remember telling him that I was really high on "My Last Words" right now. But there was so much more I wanted to say! And my mouth didn't want to work. All the questions! But most importantly I wanted to say "Thank You". For so many years of enjoyment listening to his music. Just "Thank You" And I couldn't even muster up that! He noticed that I was starting to feel uncomfortable and he shook my hand and Thanked me for coming. That was it. If I had only talked more (or at all), that meeting would have lasted longer for everyone. But since I was last in line, that was the end. They started to set up for the group photo and David Ellefson came running up to my side And he said "Hey cool. Colts" Because I was wearing my Indianapolis Colts hat (as I always do). And that was it. It was over. Despite my lack of communication skills, It was still a great experience. One that I will treasure always. I got out and found Tim. He told me his Sully story and I told him my Megadeth story. We made it to our seats in time for Machine Head to finish up there set.
And Then Megadeth! I was still on a pretty good high, but at the same time, if I could have kicked myself in my own ass I would have for the missed opportunity. Oh well, hopefully one day I will be able to see him again. Here's the setlist. A little short because it's a festival show. And I'll still never understand how they weren't the headliner.

  Trust
  Hanger 18
  Wake Up Dead
  Sweating Bullets
  Head Crusher
Public Enemy No. 1 (Not yet released at this time)
  Symphony Of Destruction
  Peace Sells
  Holy Wars

My daughter's then boyfriend actually got a guitar pic when they threw them out to the crowd. They had slightly better seats than we did. I found out later the little bastard sold it. I never did like him.
Godsmack was up next. They always seem to put on a good show. I don't know if Tim was a fan of there's prior to this, but I've heard him listen to them quite a bit after. Here's their setlist.

 Cryin' Like a Bitch!!
 The Enemy
 Forever Shamed
 Straight Out of Line
 Awake
 Speak
 Love-Hate-Sex-Pain
 Voodoo
 Batalla de los tambores
 Whatever
 I Stand Alone

And then there was Disturbed. I don't know, I just can't get into them. Nothing really bad to say, just not my cup of tea. So here are the pics.
                                                          Rain
Machine Head

                                                                     MEGADETH
