With me as always was Tim, but also his son Timmy. We finally got to a Mayhem Festival early enough to catch the Metal Mulisha Stunt Bike Show! I'm not sure what band was playing at the time , but our eyes were all focused on the high flying dirt bikes!
Timmy was excited to see The Devil Wears Prada, so we hung out at their stage while they were playing. Heavy stuff, but nothing really grabbed me by the throat.
We walked around for a while checking out other bands and different merchandise booths. I bought an autographed over sized guitar pic and a drumstick from the Motörhead booth. And a 4/5 band autographed Anthrax CD. Charlie Benante is absent from this tour for medical reasons, and I'm sure these probably got signed on the bus on their way to the show.
Speaking of Anthrax, this was the second time this year to see them. With Charlie on the mend, I think it was Jason Bittner from Shadow's Fall on the Drums for this show. But hey! Scott was here this time! Anthrax, who I thought should of been on the main stage, had decided to headline the side stage instead. Scott had said it was so they could get more action in the pit. And he wasn't wrong. The pit was pretty much everyone in front of the stage. You couldn't of got that at the main stage. It was a short set, but it was pretty crazy. Here's the set list and pics.
Caught In A Mosh
Got The Time
Fight 'Em 'Til You Can't
Antisocial
Indians
Madhouse
I Am The Law
From here, we headed over to the main stage where we had pit tickets to see Motörhead! Now I will admit, I got on the Motörhead bandwagon a little late. It took me a while to understand and appreciate the genius that is Lemmy. But I had been on the kick for a time before this show and was really excited to finally see them. And they did not disappoint. I had always heard that they were loud, that's an understatement. And kudos to their soundman for having it really loud, and still be able to hear everything so clearly. This was the only time I was able to catch them and it was a short festival set list, but it is one I will never forget. Here's their set list and pics.
Bomber
Damage Case
I Know How To Die
Stay Clean
Over The Top
The Chase Is Better Than The Catch
The One To Sing The Blues
Mikkey Dee Drum Solo

And now, after 21 years, SLAYER!!!!!! The trifecta is complete with this show. My first concert was supposed to be Anthrax, Megadeth, And Slayer. And if you read my first post, you'd know that didn't happen. Now only 3/4 of the original lineup is here. I missed Jeff Hanneman who at this time was still recovering from Necrotizing Fasciitis (sounds like a Slayer song) that he claimed to contract from a spider bite. So in his place, was the mighty Gary Holt of Exodus! I was expecting a vicious frenzy in the pit, but it was rather tame compared to what the reputation was for Slayer shows. That being said, the pit was not filled with Slayer only fans. A lot of them were there for Slipknot. Regardless, This was a blistering show! Full of pyro! I can't say it was worth the wait for 21 years, because I would have rather seen them a lot sooner and more often, but I was not disappointed. Here's the set list and pics.
Disciple
War Ensemble
Die By The Sword
Hate Worldwide
Mandatory Suicide
Altar Of Sacrifice
Jesus Saves
Seasons In The Abyss
Hell Awaits
Dead Skin Mask
Angel Of Death
South Of Heaven
Raining Blood
And then we have Slipknot. They always put on a Hell of a show. This was the second time for me to see them. Tim and Timmy are big Slipknot fans so they were stoked for this. I like Slipknot, but they really haven't stuck to me yet. Even now, writing this seven years after this show, I still only consider myself a casual fan. But they are always a great show. After Slayer we moved a little further back in the pit after a bathroom run. Pretty much ended up at the back of the standing area. As we were watching, Jim Root (number 4) The guitar player put some stank on a guitar pic and it flew over the crowd landing at my feet! Most people dove to the ground trying to pick it up, Timmy included. But I just stomped my foot down on top of it. I think I might of stepped on some little girls fingers! But it was mine! I ended up giving it to Timmy for a souvenir of his first concert. Here's the set list and pics.

This was a great time start to finish. Did it top the previous year? I don't know. Meeting Megadeth was a major highlight of my concert going career. But this was definitely up there! Here's The ticket stub and an event poster too.
